Well, that’s a relief. Lily’s letters are always amusing. Whenever I get one I can’t help thinking, ‘how nicely she’s turned out, now that she’s all grown up’. But she’s only a year or two younger than Lalage.
I should speak to Lalage. I’m still angry about the way she’s mishandled the Leffoy-Malaspina situation, but it’s Quentin’s fault she’s like this, and mine for not noticing how that was going ‘til it was too late. And Juliana has been through enough; if she can have Rosenthal now, then she shall.
It’s Séverine who most concerns me now, and I meant to extract her along with Juliana; she was in fact my primary consideration at the time, but she outfoxed me, as she does.
I sent word to little Jamie that she was in trouble (through other channels, since he won’t have anything to do with us), because I think that he would care about Séverine, who was kind to him when they were children; but she has not been seen for weeks now. She has disappeared in the company of that damnable vampire. The Resistance calls him Rose-thorn, and I like that; I suppose he’s pretty, but he’s been a thorn in my side for nearly a century now.
I think I shall have Gloriana Dee here for tea today. She is fond of my pies, and if she is serious about repudiating all this foolishness that Septimus has got up to, she is going to need to convince me of that. I doubt that she is. But it will be interesting to see what she knows. |

Oh, Lalage.
I can't entirely blame her for this. Domitian had a hand in it as well. I suppose I could be grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to clean this up...but I'm not.
I don't think that I have been quite this annoyed since Gregor decided he wanted to go play with Hitler. Also, I really do not know where the Silveira boy is. And I wish I did.
I would bet real money Benedetto knows. |
